1978

Institute of Environmental Science, one of the earliest environmental research institutes in China, was founded.

1983

The Master's Degree Authorizations of Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Biology and Environmental Geology were approved.

1986

Department of Environmental Science, the earliest non-normal specialty major at NENU, was founded.

1994

The undergraduate major of Ecology, the first “Professional Model” major in China, was set up.

1996

School of Urban and Environmental Sciences was founded on the basis of Department of Geography and Department of Environmental Science.

2000

The Doctoral Degree Authorization of Environmental Science and the Master's Degree Authorization of Environmental Engineering were approved by Ministry of Education.

2002

Key Laboratory of Vegetation Ecology (collaborating with the School of Life Science) was built by Ministry of Education.Key Laboratory of Wetland Ecology and Vegetation Restoration was established by State Environmental Protection Administration.

2003

Key Laboratory of Ecological Restoration and Ecosystem Management-National Key Laboratory Breeding Base (collaborating with the School of Life Science) were jointly set up by Ministry of Science and Technology and government of Jlin Province.

2006

The discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering was approved to build the First-level Discipline for Granting Doctoral Degree.  

2007

The First-level Postdoctoral Station of Environmental Science and Engineering was approved to be set up by Ministry of Personnel and National Post-Doctor Regulatory Commission.

2009

The major of Environmental Science was rated as National College Characteristic Major, and Key Laboratory of Animal Resource Conservation and Utilization in Jilin Province was set up by Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology.

2011

Environmental Science and Engineering was awarded as one of Advantageous Characteristic Key Disciplines in Jilin Province. Urban Wastewater Treatment and Water Quality Assurance Engineering Research Center in Jilin Province was built in the same year.

2012

National Ecological Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and Ecological Safety was set up by Ministry of Education. Environmental Disaster Early Warning Research Center in Jilin Province was established by government of Jilin Province in the same year.

2013

School of Environment of NENU was founded.

2014

The undergraduate major of Environmental Engineering was set up and the major of Environmental Science was ranked the first batch of Brand Education Majors in Jilin Province.

2015

Water Pollution Control and Resource Engineering Laboratory in Jilin Province was set up.
